How Can I Help You?
In individual therapy, I aim to create a therapeutic alliance based on mutual respect, trust, and sense of safety in a non-judgmental environment. Taking a collaborative approach, I nurture a sense of empowerment in my clients to identify their therapy goals that help them to live a richer, fuller, and a more meaningful life. Each of my clients is a unique individual. Therefore, using an intersectional lens, I take particular interest in knowing them, their life and cultural histories, their values, dreams, and issues that hinder their sense of personal growth. Such deep understanding of their needs and struggles helps me create an individually-focused, trauma-informed, evidence-based therapeutic approach, while complementing their inner strength and authenticity.
In couple therapy, I help couples to understand their individual needs in relationships and their struggles in communicating such needs to each other. Taking a systemic and intersectional approach, in my therapy I explore the intricacies of expectations, roles, cultural values, and emotional injuries in the couple’s relationship. In a safe and respectful therapeutic setting, I help couples communicate their vulnerable emotions to each other, so that they can support each other in creating a shared sense of meaningful partnership.
I am a LGBTIQ+ affirming therapist with long-term expertise in working with the LGBTIQ+ community in Australia. I personally know the struggles that we face growing up in a cis-heteronormative society, leaving one feeling anxious, marginalized, discriminated, and confused. Research across the world has highlighted the greater risk of developing depression, social anxiety, and other mental health issues among the members of the LGBTIQ+ community due to the structural and systemic discrimination, prejudice, and abuse. Further, through my academic research, I found that higher levels of heterosexist harassment and discrimination faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in Australia led to poorer mental health conditions and sense of coping in facing various life stressors. My work is diversity-positive and using an intersectional lens, I support my clients navigate through such unique challenges in a respectful, safe, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment.
I have extensive experience in working with clients from the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community. Migrating to a country often brings special challenges to the individuals where they may experience a sense of loss of identity, grief, displacement, anxiety, and intergenerational conflict. As a Person of Colour (PoC) and an immigrant therapist, my culturally informed practice helps my clients work through such issues and cultivate a sense of resilience and growth, both in individual and couple therapy.
